چکیده
Introduction An imbalance of vastus medialis (VM) and lateralis (VL) muscle activation patterns dyscoordination may contribute to the sex discrepancy in incidence patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS). While some studies have examined sex-specific VM/VL coordination strategies tasks, no previous during repeated sprint exercise (RSE). Methods In this study, asymptomatic young adults ( N = 39, 19 females) completed a RSE protocol consisting 10 × s all-out cycling interspersed by 30 passive rest. Electromyographic (EMG) signals from VM VL muscles were recorded throughout exercise. Results VM:VL ratio did not change with fatigue was different between sexes. From 1 10, VM-VL onset delay increased 9.62 16.95 ms 19.28 45.09 males females, respectively p < 0.001); however, difference found 0.524). Muscle amplitude plateaued at repetitions females while mechanical work similar repetitions. Discussion These findings suggest that differences PFPS be influenced as assessed EMG.

Neuromuscular Adjustments of the Quadriceps Muscle after Repeated Cycling Sprints
PURPOSE This study investigated the supraspinal processes of fatigue of the quadriceps muscle in response to repeated cycling sprints. METHODS Twelve active individuals performed 10 × 6-s "all-out" sprints on a cycle ergometer (recovery = 30 s), followed 6 min later by 5 × 6-s sprints (recovery = 30 s). Transcranial magnetic and electrical femoral nerve stimulations during brief (5-s) and sus...

the current study aimed at investigating the relationship between motivation and test preparation strategies (tpss) used by iranian pre-university students in their preparation period for the university entrance exam (uee). due to the importance of uee in iran, this study also attempted to show its impact on these two important variables. to this end, 100 pre-university students in an iranian p...
Neuromuscular function of the quadriceps muscle during isometric maximal, submaximal and submaximal fatiguing voluntary contractions in knee osteoarthrosis patients
INTRODUCTION Knee osteoarthrosis (KOA) is commonly associated with a dysfunction of the quadriceps muscle which contributes to alterations in motor performance. The underlying neuromuscular mechanisms of muscle dysfunction are not fully understood. The main objective of this study was to analyze how KOA affects neuromuscular function of the quadriceps muscle during different contraction intensi...

© 1998 Journals of Reproduction and Fertility 1359-6004/98 $12.50 Puberty, the transition from a sexually immature state to one of full reproductive activity, is timed by signals acting in the brain to increase activity of the hypothalamo–pituitary axis which stimulates the production of mature gametes. There are profound sex differences in the timing of puberty in many species. This occurs by ...
